Upstate Pianos is the only Authorized Steinway & Sons dealer in the greater Capital Region. That appointment is territorial, not promotional: Steinway grants one dealer per market, and ours runs from Herkimer in the west to southern Vermont and western Massachusetts in the east, and from the Canadian border in the north to Poughkeepsie in the south.

Everything is sold from one showroom, at 664 Loudon Rd #2 in Latham, New York. We do not operate satellite stores. If you live anywhere inside the territory below, Latham is where you come to play the instruments, and it is where your piano is prepared before it is delivered to you.

The territory we serve

Our Steinway territory covers four states in part or whole. Its outer edges are:

  • West — Herkimer, New York, and the Mohawk Valley approaching it
  • East — southern Vermont and western Massachusetts, including the Berkshires
  • North — the Canadian border, by way of the Adirondacks and Champlain Valley
  • South — Poughkeepsie and the mid Hudson Valley

Inside that boundary sit the Capital Region proper (Albany, Schenectady, Troy and the towns around them), Saratoga County, the Glens Falls and Lake George area, Columbia and Greene counties, the Mohawk Valley, the Berkshires and the southern Green Mountains.

Where to find us

The showroom is at 664 Loudon Rd #2, Latham, NY 12110, in the town of Colonie between Albany and Troy. It sits just off the Northway, which is the practical reason a single location can serve a territory this size: Latham is within about twenty minutes of Albany, Schenectady and Troy, forty minutes of Saratoga Springs, and roughly an hour of Glens Falls, Hudson and Amsterdam.

What we do

We are a piano dealer. Our work is selling, preparing, moving and caring for acoustic and hybrid instruments:

  • New Steinway & Sons pianos — grands and uprights, ordered and prepared through the authorized channel
  • Used and rebuilt Steinways — including instruments we have restored ourselves
  • Other makes — Kawai acoustics and hybrids, and pre-owned instruments from a range of makers
  • Institutional sales — schools, colleges, churches, concert halls and other venues
  • Delivery and moving — throughout the territory, coordinated with movers who handle pianos properly
  • Appraisal and trade-in — and help selling an instrument you no longer need
  • Service — tuning and technical work through our technician network

Why the authorized appointment matters

An Authorized Steinway dealer is the only route to a genuine new Steinway with the factory warranty intact, to authentic Steinway parts, and to the selection and preparation process the factory expects before an instrument is delivered. It is also what allows a trade-in to be valued against the real market for the instrument rather than a guess.

For an institution, the appointment matters for a plainer reason: it is what makes a Steinway purchase auditable. There is one authorized source for this territory, and the paperwork reflects that.
